Rescue Center Costa Rica operates as a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing injured or displaced wildlife. The center relies on the support of volunteers and donors to sustain its operations. It has received official permits from Costa Rica’s Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) to function as an Animal Rescue Center and sanctuary. Laura and Vanessa work tirelessly to ensure local wildlife is protected with the help of volunteers. We have volunteered here in the past and in August 2026 will return for three months as co-ordinators for the volunteer teams

parkrun is a global, community-led organisation that hosts free, weekly, timed 5km events in parks and public spaces. Open to all ages and abilities, it promotes health, social connection, and volunteering. parkrun relies on local volunteers, encourages inclusive participation, and aims to make physical activity accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable for everyone. When we lived in Singapore we were part of the core volunteer team for West Coast Park parkrun and when we moved to Germany we initiated the creation of Neckarufer Esslingen parkrun. For the last 7 years Nigel has been the Event Director of the event and Noms has been an active part of the core team and a Run Director.
