Our story so far

The corporate “me”

BIO

Born into farming, my love of motorcycles fooled me into a career in engineering, which I really learned to love. Finally this steered me into a successful career in sales. Over 42 years, I worked my way up to senior management in Germany — swapping spanners for spreadsheets and pliers for PowerPoints along the way.

Then life shifted. The birth of our granddaughter, the loss of loved ones, and a volunteering trip to the Rescue Center in Costa Rica made me pause and reflect. Could we really give it all up — the career, the stability — to live a life focused on volunteering, travelling, and spending meaningful time with those we love?

At 58, I decided, Why not? What have we got to lose?
And so, here we are… LIFE 2.0

BIO

Hi, I’m Noms! Travel has always been a big part of my life. In 2016, Nigel and I moved to Singapore for his job, and 3 years later to Germany, where we’ve now been for seven years. But a volunteering trip to a rescue centre in Costa Rica last Christmas changed everything.

We spent our time there caring for injured animals and we met some amazing people. It was an experience that made us stop and really think about what we want from life. So, we made a huge decision: to retire early, return to the rescue centre, and then keep travelling the world, volunteering our way around in exchange for food and a place to stay.

It’s a little scary, it’s a lot exciting, and with some careful planning, we think we can actually make it happen!
